It's been a long while since we made the switch to the genre section we now make use of here on A4 and there's been plenty of time to feel it out. Do you feel that the decision to switch to a genre system of organization has been successful or is there room for improvement?

What's the point of putting "no opinion" you might as well just not even say anything.

I would say pretty good.

Since the end of summer break almost all of the genre forums have kinda worn themselves out ( contingency is the exception ). Especially the sci-fi/mecha genre is inactive. More people go to the forum with new releases or "anime in japan". But this might change in a year or so, it all really depends on how many featured anime we know.

I think it's decent. The names have me lost at times but, it's organized well. Better than before atleast.

Voted for "No opinion" cause I can't pick any from the other given choices. Also it's situated in the middle of good and bad which I interpreted as "Fair".

It was like that when I joined so I can't compare it to the previous one. At first, I found it cool but then as time gone by, the categories became too broad for me...
Can the genre be more specific? Break the four categories into more specific genre. I think the sports genre is overpowered by other types of genre that belong to the same class. (or maybe there are just few sports anime fanatics here in A4)

Another thing that I've noticed is that there are possible threads the could belong to more than one genre. For example, a thread about Fushigi Yuugi could belong in the Contingency and Impulse section cause it's Romance + Action / Adventure. Personally, I would rather post on the anime chit chat rather than the specific genre section. I think other posers are doing the same thing too.

I also think anime chit-chat overlapses with the genres sections.

Damn those poll results are surprising.

While this got discussions going when first implemented (and everyones gotta admit, it made the frontpage look sleek as hell) right now its a hassle. You basically have to click all of the forums incase you miss a topic because *gasp*

MOST ANIME SERIES ENCOMPASS MORE THAN ONE GENRE

Bring back the 3 limited edition forums (new series) and have maybe 2 or more for 'most sucked off anime' i.e Eva, Trigun (these are examples, I hate these shows) w/e and see how that goes.

I only bother with new anime in japan (thanks for bringing this back btw) and anime chitchat.

Voted bad, btw.

We had a bazillion genre forums before which became ridiculous and ambiguous.

I switched it to 4 main parts to not only try driving traffic to a bigger forum but to simplify the "limited series" stuff by adding them to appropriate category sections which is why you have Bleach, Naruto and One Piece as separate sub forums.

Generally speaking, these sections shouldn't have much traffic in the first place because people should ultimately be posting in the Anime Chit Chat and Anime in Japan sections due to the even more broader scope and topics available.

Sub forums are only limited to the Contingency section. It's true that Bleach, Naruto and OP are the 3 of the most popular on-going mainstream but there could be other series that may deserve another sub forum slot (e.g. KHR, FT , FMA or MSN). However most of the series that may have the potential to have its own sub forum belong also to the Contingency section.

This would be getting us into the situation we found ourselves in before, with numerous sub-forums for many anime and most them devoid of any activity.

3 limited edition forums for new series. Threads with high activity/many users participating in the new anime in japan forum are good indicators on what will generate discusssion as opposed to people requesting sh1t because the 9 year old is kinda hot.

3 classic/most sucked of animes (berserk, trigun, gits - these are examples) - these would work the same as the limited edition. As in the staff decide what series are a)super popular/essential b) could still generate discussion.

Keep changing the last 2 every 2/3 months as before. Keeps things fresh and who doesn't want to hate on Griffith/ramble on about their take on exactly wtf happened in Lain/discuss Fayes bewbs?

I'd be very surprised if anyone in the staff forum came up with a better suggestion then this one. Which is awesome, btw.

I have to agree with this one. I think we must give other series a time to shine... If we'll have a sub-forum for series with potential discussions then that series could lead to greater activity in A4 as well as other new members (which are fans of that series) or rejuvenation of old inactive members.

MOST ANIME SERIES ENCOMPASS MORE THAN ONE GENRE
Hence, we changed the original system of individual genres to some groups of genres. Most of the time, an anime will fit nicely into either the Contigency, the Impulse, the Frontier or the Transcendental; rarely will an anime encompass more than one of these groups. There are exceptions, of course, but most of them will go into one of these groups.

I fully agree with the Limited Edition forums, it does generate some activity in a larely unknown series. For example, I remember back in mid 2007 I petitioned for a Shakugan no Shana forum, and eventually it did get through. Previously, there was just one thread in the old AIJ with only a selected few discussing it. Although I had to do a crap load of posting in the new LE forum for the second season, it did gather much more attention than it would have if it stayed a thread. If it worked with, initially, just me trying to raise acitivity for it and succeeded, the results would be far better.

As for the Classics forum, you would really have to pick some series which used to be, and still is, popular with enough new material to discuss (e.g. ongoing manga etc.).

See, that's what annoys me. What's the point of having a whole new board for a series that hardly gets attention? There's a difference between posting to keep a board alive and posting genuinely because you want to. I don't mind Naruto, Bleach or OP forums because they get a new episode every week so there's a lot of discussion value, but a whole new board just for SnS or any other 24 ep anime with 1 or 2 seasons is pretty worthless. Discussing about Shana's hair isn't really interesting or of any discussion value.

Its great but. I think sometimes the people who browse it and talk of unrelated stuff compared to what the sub-genre says
