Definitely Kasunagi. The Major is pretty awesome, and she fits the anime pretty well. I would like to believe shes very beautiful to most people too. However is Faye were on this poll then my vote would change for sure.

Haruhi should win hands down do to so much internet hype.

I think Haruhi was mostly a fad. You don't see that much reference to the show anymore, even with the second series having been released. Kusanagi Motoko, however, is iconic. She actually became more interesting as the media about her expanded. Ghost in the Shell goes back much, much further than Haruhi Suzumiya, and will be recognized and referenced much, much longer.

im more into my own watching stuff than the "scene". so to say most "popular" is tough for me. i have no idea who is popular. Who do i like the most? probobly horo

I said Haruhi, but as far as best, I think Motoko cause GITS opened doors for anime and other things like the Matrix.
