Family Lies...

My mom and dad like never lie to me, but they said they quite smoking and haven't. I've know for 'bout a year now, it's ripping my mind to tell them or not. I don't want to hint it because if I do tell them I want to tell them strait, but I don't know if I should. I'm afraid, don't know why, but I am. Please help me.

Maybe you have to try doing something drastic. I dunno, like maybe fight fire with fire?
Like cutting off the ends of cigar's while they're smoking or do a home-raid in search for tobaco? (sorry, it's kinda impolite.)
Or you can threat them by attempting to run away from home. (Argh! I still got that in my mind!). But a threat usually works.

Just don't chicken out. You're gonna do this for their own benefit, right?

Hmm, Lynn. How should I put it? Are you their oldest child? Actually, I just realised this not long myself. Sometimes people lie to seek comfort, yeah, even if it means lying to themselves. Being a parent isn't easy you know. Every parent must've had a moment when they don't know what to do for sure. Especially if they're inexperienced in growing up a child before. Including the times when they lie to their child.

For now, just, try to understand them better. You'll figure out something later!

I'm the youngest. Only my brother and I. He's in the 9th grade and is a f**king pain. They come for me for advise when they're stuck. Life sucks in general.

hmmm well about them still smoking. your parents probabl can't help it. you have to be understanding to them as well. they aren't lying to you ebcuase they want to. they jsut odn't want you to worry probably. its veyr very hard to quite tabacco and you have to understand that.

just sit down with them adn explain that you know they are still smoking and if they truly love you they will try harder to quite. hopefully they will see the sadness they are ptting you through and make more of an effort to quite. good luck with it^________^

I try, but there's this knot in my stomache and I get jittie and well... I back down like a dog with it's tail between it's legs. I usally aint scared of a lot but when it comes to this, I'm down right horrified. Any suggestion there?

Y'know what... just give up on them. They're adults. I'm sure they're all "grown up" to be able to handle the consequences of their actions... like smoking...

Yeah, I know that. But I know that they do it and I'm not sure wheather to tell them or not. Maybe this is just something I'm useing to hide something else but not knowing it. What's that called? my parents have been lying to me and my sisters for our whole life about my dad having 2 other families...my mom told me and even though it still hurts when i recall it,i kinda outgrown it already(i loathe my dad anyways).

but anyways, my mom also used to smoke but she never lied to us about her smoking cuz she smokes in front of us(literally). that around when i was 5 and i already knew about lung cancer,so i told my mom to stop smoking or else she's gonna have lung cancer then die. i also told her that if she doesn't stop smoking me and my sisters will be mad at her^___^ we blackmailed her in a way. and she stopped thanx to out blackmailing^_^;

i think you should tell your parents. your still young and you have a brother so you should put up the courage to tell them before its too late.

See if you or someone you know can get you a pack of Nicatrol. When you see your parents smoking, take the cig away from them and give them the patch/gum/whatever it is. After giving it to them, talk to them straight saying," I know that you smoke, and I would like you to stop. I know it's hard, but you could get lung cancer and die and miss my prom night/graduation/insert a moment that is special to you. I need you both more than anything in the world."

If that doesn't work, get your siblings/grandparents/cousins/anyone else you know, and make an intervention.

The same had happened to me. My dad smokes and he said he was going to stop but it's been what.. 2 years now.. and he still smokes abundants of cigs. I've told him to stop but does he listen? No...

But I think when you catch your parents sober one day, talk to them about it. Smoking damages health in every way, and second smoking is even worse. If they wanna keep on smoking, your parents should at least consider ur health. -_-

thats my opinion exactly, its not a lie its just they havent managed to quit. but at least by telling you they were going to quit gives you the peace of mind to know that they are aware of the consequences of smoking... although im not sure thats gonna make you feel any better...

Just dont worry about it. Just so many things worth worrying about. I hate it that they feel they have to lie to you, but maybe youve givin them that idea, since your so freaked out, or maybe they just dont want to worry you. You just cant tell till youve been there. But while were on the subject, ive about had my fill of lies, so i know what you mean.
