A few months back, my gaming life changed when I found a copy of Escape From Monkey Island (EFMI) for the PS2 priced at $7.95. I took it home and for about 2 weeks straight, that was pretty much all I played. I just had an absolute blast playing it. The puzzles were fun, the game graphically was beautiful, and the humor was funnier then most hollywood films. The game was a refreshing breath of fresh air since all I'd been playing was very serious RPG's and shooters. I unfortunatly never got around to finishing it because I bought Max Payne 2, so it was back to normal. I then had a sudden urge to play more adventure games. For my next one, I decided to buy one that was fairly recent and was quite critically acclaimed, so I bought Syberia for the XBox. Wow. All I can say is that I can't wait for the sequel. Graphically stinning, great puzzles, and one fantastic story equal a great $15.00 spent.

I just recently (today) went back to Escape From Monkey Island and, sure enough, it's still just an incredible game. So, I was talking to a few adventure gamers I knew and told them how much I was enjoying EMFI, and I was stunned at what I heard next. Apperantly, compared to the first 3 monkey island games, EFMI was ok, but not nearly as good as the other three. So now I'm psyched to play the other three, and today I bought Curse Of Monkey Island off EBAY for $8.00 new, so I'm well on my way.

I then asked the adventure gamers what they would reccomend as good games, and they wouldn't shut up about this game called Grim Fandango. So has anyone here played Grim Fandango? and if so, is it any good? So, I guess after COMI, I'll buy Grim Fandango. I also want to buy the legendary Sam And Max Hit The Road, but that one's quite rare and I've been having a hell of a time.

The Adventure genre is a rare breed. The games are always graphically stunning, have super high produuction values, when they try to be funny, they usually are, but most importantly, they have a lot of heart. Unfortunatly, the adventure genre is on life support. New ones come few and far between, and the only big one coming out soon is Syberia II. Even one of the biggest games in the genre, Sam and Max, had it's sequel cancelled. This is a shame. All we gotta do is buy one and have a good time to help save an entire genre. Won't you help?

Hmm, interesting. When I hear “adventure” game, I think of games like Legend of Zelda and similar games. The games you mentioned are “point and click” games, in my opinion. But both game genres are good though, lol.

The second Monkey Island quite easily rips over the rest of them. The entire series is incredible, so it's worth getting them all.

You also need to get hold of Broken Sword and it's 2 sequels. These games aren't anywhere near as funny as Monkey Island, but they are still pure classics.

Gaming gold.

Grim Fandango is the greatest
The reason people rant about it so highly is because it is that damn good. Its set in the land of the dead and your kind of a travel agent for the dead. Manny is funny as hell and the whole thing is just well GREAT.
If you like adventure games get grim fandango its like the best

Im play one to many adventure games. Other than grimfandango i would recomend you The longest jounrey (10/10), Syberia, syberia 2, all the broken swords, curse of monkey island which is the best of all imo.
Then youve got point and clicks like myst that i play but they aint for everyone and theres barely no speech jsut very hard puzzles.

Grim Fandango was good, but alot of those puzzles....man they aren't anything a human being could figure out. While it is indeed a fantastic game, I think I'd prefer to play through Sam & Max Hit the Road again. Because it's been a LONG time. Oh, and "adventure" is pretty much one of the broadest genres there is. I, too, would include Legend of Zelda as adventure, because it really isn't much like any more conventional RPG's.

The way you defined adventure games...best I can figure, you mean anything released by Lucasarts, that THEY define as Adventure. :D Try playing The Dig or maybe....what the hell was the motorcycle one called? I can't believe I don't remember! Anyway there were also a couple of Indiana Jones games....I never got a chance to play those.
