Do any of you guys have them? Even an Ipod mini? I'm planning on getting the big Ipod that can hold about 20,000 songs. I have the Itunes program to go with it, and that's what I use too listen to my music. I just have to save my money. >_< What about you guys?

Yea, they do cost alot, especially if you want a good one. The one I want cost about 300$ which would only take me about a month or so to save up for because of my job, ^_~.

Hell no. I'll pitch in an extra hundred bucks and buy an AV player that isn't goin to die in 18 months and cost 250 to have the battery replaced.

Goddamn you, I want one of those. I stole 2 Numad Muvos, a 128 meg for me and a 64 meg for my friend... at most I can get about 35 songs on it... I think I'm gonna save up and buy an ipod.

I was never really impressed with the ipods. Sure having 20k songs on tap is nice, but who's going to listen to 20k different songs on a trip? Also I'm a bit leary of the hard-drive based players since I know how much abuse things that travel will end up taking.
Consequently I've always been partial to the flash based players since you can drop them and/or get them wet and they will keep playing (if wet you might have to dry them first). Yeah the size is smaller, but even with my 128mB one I am rarely feeling like I wanted more songs on there, usually because I take the time to choose the one's I'm in the mood for.

I have an ipod and I rarely even use it.
But when I buy a adapter to play it in my car then it will be in use all the time.

Same here, I'll always take it with me too school an when I'm driving, because when I hit a bump in the road, it won't turn itself off, like my cd player does, which sucks when that happens and you're in the middle of a good song. -_-'

I'm debating if I should get an iPod or the Nomad Creative Zen player. I
haven't got a chance to research on both but I heard about the iPods battery
problem. So I'm leaning towards the Zen player.
ill just stick to a cd player or whatever..but in a way i do kind of want a ipod but its not worth my money...

Just cause it happend to you doesn't mean it happends with everyone. Maybe you're jynxed or something. lol Idunno.
I had a 5gb old school iPod back from when they came out. Gave it to my dad. I'm hoping to get the new iPod Photo (40gb) for xmas, but I can't say for sure.
iPods really are wonderful. Your PC nerds will dork about how they are too expencive and not worth the money. Not really. They are small, hold plenty of battery power, and easy to use. With iTunes in your computer, keeping your iPod updated with all your mp3s is almost effortless. Basicly your iTunes in your pocket. Other bargan brand mp3 players are made for PCs are not worth it. Big bulky paperweights that hold half the mp3s a low end iPod would hold. I saw a Creative Jukebox at Office Max the other day. 60gb for about $300. That thing was the size of FIVE iPods put together! Tell you the truth, I rather pay that extra $150 to get something that actually will FIT IN MY POCKET!
iPods are worth the money. They are small, high quality, and run for a good 15 hours before they have to be recharged. Oh, btw, if you battery dies like Ian's did, you should probably have it replaced under warrenty. That would be smarter.
btw, this should be in the tech forum. *report*

If you were talking about the Ipod lacking touch buttons, that's why they have the wheel thing on their, so you can easily get to things on your Ipod. I'm planning on saving my money an getting one, unless I get it for christmas. That would be cool. Anyways, I think Ipods are great and I'm only one step of the way their, by having Itunes as my main music player. ^_^

The only reason ipods are so popular is that they have trendwhorish commercials and shameless product association (re: U2).
Frankly, in my opinion, if your product is really good, you don't have to advertise it. People will come. Ferrari is an example, and Alienware is another (yes, I know alienware advertised once or twice, but not nearly as much as any other computer maker).
If you want my opinion, get an Archos (http://www.archos.com). They are the best in the business. Archos players have the most size and the most features. The feature that really got me hooked onto archos, however, is that when you plug it into a computer, it is recognized as an external hard drive, so you can store anything on it. You can use it as an mp3 player, or you can use it as a backup drive. The great thing about this, though, is that you can access everything on it, directly from your PC. If you make a folder on it, then when you boot up the archos, that folder will be in there, and navigatable.
Some of the Archos models are PDA's also, with calendars and everything, and others even play color videos, and function as a portable tivo (plug into your tv and record).
But the most important feature about Archos products is the interface, which I'll let speak for itself:
http://www.archos.com/img/av400/screen_interface.gif http://www.archos.com/img/av400/ARCLibrary.gif
http://www.archos.com/img/av400/music_cover.gif http://www.archos.com/img/av400/Scheduler.gif
http://www.archos.com/img/av400/ff_video2.gif http://www.archos.com/img/av400/resume.gif
http://www.archos.com/img/av400/showpics.gif http://www.archos.com/img/av400/organize_files.gif
Of course, there are less expensive models, for those people who don't have a lot of money (like me), but if you have enough money to buy an ipod, you have enough money to plasma TV.
Of course, there are less expensive models, for those people who don't have a lot of money (like me), but if you have enough money to buy an ipod, you have enough money to plasma TV.
The only real excuse I can hear a anti-ipod people give is the price. It's too much, and THIS is cheaper.
I looked at the lowest end mp3 player on that site, and it was only about $70 cheaper then it's iPod counter part. Most of the higher models got even MORE expencive because they added on all those useless do-das. Same as the types I mention above. Really big paper weights that just don't fit in your pocket.
iPods are built VERY well! Even though you might be horibly unlucky enough to get a lemon like Ian did, it's very rare for iPods to break down. I don't trust ANYTHING build on Windows or any type of PC based product. They are just made too sloppily.
As for the interface, that's just silly. PC people get off on customizing EVERYTHING! These are the people who will pay twice as much for a phone with a color screen then one with a black and white screen that does just as much. After a point, you really have to look at what you want to buy this product for instead of just buying a bunch of cool features. I don't need to post a wallpaper on my iPod, or watch cool videos. All I need is music, and a **** load of it.
iPods are small, and shapes well to keep on the side of your belt or loose in your pocket. Very few, if any, other mp3 players out there are that same size with the same amount of battery power, and storage.
You can talk about iPods all you want, but when it gets down to it, the only reason you don't like them is because you're too poor to afford them. That's not a good enough reason to diss a product.
"Jaguar? They are pieces of CRAP! My Geo Metro kicks ass. I only paid $5,000 for it."

I'm sorry, but I can't stand immature people like you. Where do you get off telling me MY opinion? If I remember correctly, you stated in the parent post stated that he/she didn't have a whole lot of money, and your post said that there are archos models that are cheaper and offered more features. You want to know my main gripes with the ipod?
1. Just an expensive paperweight
2. You're paying for looks, not functionality
3. You need to use a proprietary program to transfer files between your computer and the ipod
4. You can only hold songs on teh ipod, and pictures on the one that's 200 bucks more.
5. You can't delete songs off it.
6. Low quality screen
7. Low quality interface
Trust me, I've tried both archos and ipod, and I chose to purchase the former because it is just plain better. You, on the other hand, have no clue what you're talking about, because you've never touched an archos.
If I may give you a suggestion
DON'T HOLD STRONG OPINIONS ON THINGS YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT.
First off, don't call me immature when you know nothing about me or my intentions. Otherwise you're just as bad.
1. Just an expensive paperweight <-- Just not true. Not only is the iPod lighter and smaller (making a rather sucky paper wieght), most of your wonderful Archos are much more expencive then the iPod.
2. You're paying for looks, not functionality <-- Looks? Your Archos are the ones with customizable desktops and hyped up interfaces. There really isn't anything very stylish about the iPod. It was just designed simple, not flashy. Can you say that about most of your Archos? Not really. They look like Porsches.
3. You need to use a proprietary program to transfer files between your computer and the ipod <--- Actually, no. If you're that out of it that you don't have iTunes, you can drag mp3s into the ipod manually as if the iPod was like any other disk drive. I guess you missed that during your test drive, huh?
4. You can only hold songs on teh ipod, and pictures on the one that's 200 bucks more. <-- So? It's an mp3 player, not a laptop. If I wanted to watch movies so bad, I'd take my G4 laptop with me.
5. You can't delete songs off it. <-- You know, it would of helped if you actually READ the users manual.
6. Low quality screen <-- What's low quality to you? The iPod has a very detailed screen, enough so it can show all and any information it needs to. If you want better, get an iPod Photo, even though I don't like those. Again, it's an MP3 player, not a laptop. Sorry it doesn't have a plasma screen.
7. Low quality interface <-- How so? The interface is very fast and efficent. With my last iPod, I could find any song I wanted to in under a minute, even if it was not on a playlist. It's very organized too. No criptic PC file names.
DON'T HOLD STRONG OPINIONS ON THINGS YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT.
You should talk. I browsed that website quite a bit and did a little research so I could talk **** about your wonderful Archo. Do you expect me to go buy one of those paperwieghts just so I can have an opinion? Yeah right.

1. Just an expensive paperweight <-- Just not true. Not only is the iPod lighter and smaller (making a rather sucky paper wieght), most of your wonderful Archos are much more expencive then the iPod.
Last time I checked, the Ipod weighs 6.2 ounces (paperweight weight) and costs 400 dollars (expensive).
2. You're paying for looks, not functionality <-- Looks? Your Archos are the ones with customizable desktops and hyped up interfaces. There really isn't anything very stylish about the iPod. The majority of people today buy their ipods because of what they look like. They don't even know what a gigabyte is. Last time I checked, the archos models don't come in 10 different colors.
3. You need to use a proprietary program to transfer files between your computer and the ipod <--- Actually, no. If you're that out of it that you don't have iTunes, you can drag mp3s into the ipod manually as if the iPod was like any other disk drive. I guess you missed that during your test drive, huh?
I tried that. Didn't work.
4. You can only hold songs on teh ipod, and pictures on the one that's 200 bucks more. <-- So? It's an mp3 player, not a laptop. If I wanted to watch movies so bad, I'd take my G4 laptop with me.
Wow, for the price of an ipod, I can BUY a laptop. My point here was that while the archos can function as an external disk drive to back up your office work, the ipod can't, thus making you carry two things around.
5. You can't delete songs off it. <-- You know, it would of helped if you actually READ the users manual.
You know, it would HAVE helped if you kept up with the news.
The ipod has a very LOW quality screen. If it were actually detailed, then I wouldn't be complaining.
7. Low quality interface <-- How so? The interface is very fast and efficent. With my last iPod, I could find any song I wanted to in under a minute, even if it was not on a playlist. It's very organized too. No criptic PC file names.
You have to go through a long process, JUST TO CREATE A FOLDER. There is no double browser, and it is nearly impossible to transfer a song from one folder to another without a computer.
You should talk. I browsed that website quite a bit and did a little research so I could talk crap about your wonderful Archo. Do you expect me to go buy one of those paperwieghts just so I can have an opinion? Yeah right.
Yeah, I know, I should talk, because I'm the one that has actually tried both out, and you're the one who thinks that looking at a website is equivalent to actually handling a product. In case you haven't noticed, you don't have to buy something to try it out. Just go to a store and look at the in-store model. Geez.

Last time I checked, the Ipod weighs 6.2 ounces (paperweight weight) and costs 400 dollars (expensive).
Ipods only cost so much because you're paying for something that can hold 20,000 songs and is the most effcient mp3 player on the market today. It doesn't matter what size it is. Sure, it may not be able to fit in you're pocket, that's why they made Ipod minis, for your pocket use. Ipods are not damn paperweights, your frickn' archos is a paperweight for all I care. Weight doesn't matter to anyone, all that matter's is if they are able to hold the amount of songs they need or want to hold in their player.
The majority of people today buy their ipods because of what they look like. They don't even know what a gigabyte is. Last time I checked, the archos models don't come in 10 different colors.
You don't have to be a computer wiz to buy an mp3 player, all you have to know is how many songs it can hold and what features it has. Ipods are coming out with new features all the time if you don't read on the internet you obviously no nothing about what the Ipod has in store. Ipods come in 10 different colors becuase maybe you'd like to buy an Ipod that has your favorite color?
Wow, for the price of an ipod, I can BUY a laptop. My point here was that while the archos can function as an external disk drive to back up your office work, the ipod can't, thus making you carry two things around.
Basically what your saying is that an archos basically is a laptop. If you're buying an mp3 player you don't need something like an archos just to back up your office files, that's what a laptop is for. Mp3 players are supposed to be for music downloads and whatever features they feel like adding to it. Such as the new Ipod with a photo thing now.
You know, it would HAVE helped if you kept up with the news.
That comment wasn't necessary.
The ipod has a very LOW quality screen. If it were actually detailed, then I wouldn't be complaining.
The Ipod doesn't need a high quality screen to make you satisfied. Simplicity sometimes works best certain things. You don't need something flashy to get to your songs. Ipod is more popular then the other players because of it's simplicity.
You have to go through a long process, JUST TO CREATE A FOLDER. There is no double browser, and it is nearly impossible to transfer a song from one folder to another without a computer.
That's why they have a program called Itunes, which you can hook up your Ipod to your computer with Itunes automatically recgonizes the player and you can delete, organize and upload songs. You don't always have to do it on the Ipod, you can always take it to your laptop or computer and do it from their.

I would go cheap and buy a discman with mp3 support
Last time I checked, the Ipod weighs 6.2 ounces (paperweight weight) and costs 400 dollars (expensive).
Archo: 11.29 oz, $799. I know there are cheaper brands, but if you wanna brag about the model that plays video and has custom wallpapers and ****, then THAT is the one i'm gonna compare to the iPod.
Oh, and for the sake of argument the iPod is 4.1 x 2.4 x 0.69 inches, and the Archos is 4.9" x 3.1" x 1". iPod is much smaller.
Also, the 20gb iPod weighs less. About 5.6 oz.
The majority of people today buy their ipods because of what they look like. They don't even know what a gigabyte is. Last time I checked, the archos models don't come in 10 different colors.
First of all, only the iPod Minis come in different colors (five actually), and for the book, I think the iPod Mini's are retarded. They only carry 4gb which is not enough. As for the normal iPods, they have only one color. White. Again, do more research.
I tried that. Didn't work.
Works for me. Read the manual. Oh, yeah, you can't. I find it funny you want me to buy an Archo to try it out when you don't even know how to use your iPod.
Wow, for the price of an ipod, I can BUY a laptop. My point here was that while the archos can function as an external disk drive to back up your office work, the ipod can't, thus making you carry two things around.
The most expencive iPod is the 60gb iPod Photo for $599. The Archo you are currently bragging about is $799. I don't know about any laptops at CompUSA for only 600 bucks but, with the Christmas sales, I'm sure you could find one for 800.
5. You can't delete songs off it. <-- You know, it would of helped if you actually READ the users manual.

What is that suppost to mean? "Keep up with the news?" From what i've heard, you really don't know how to use the iPod. Two things so far I know for a fact you can do (because I have an iPod and have done these things). This reminds me of the ignorance factor of PC people. They think Macs suck because they have no idea what they are doing when they get on one. Which is amazing since Macs are suppost to be idiot proof.
The ipod has a very LOW quality screen. If it were actually detailed, then I wouldn't be complaining.
From you? Nah, I think you'd still complain. If there are people complainning about the B&W screen of the iPod, it would explain why there is now a color version out now.
Next.
You have to go through a long process, JUST TO CREATE A FOLDER. There is no double browser, and it is nearly impossible to transfer a song from one folder to another without a computer.
How exactly are you gonna tranfer mp3s back and forth WITHOUT a computer? Where do you think mp3s come from? Cassete tapes? The mp3 fairy? And if you're talking about the fact you can't transfer songs from one iPod to another, that's on perpose. Since you can DL songs legally from iTunes, they didn't want people putting them on their iPod, and giving the song to everyone at work.

If i'm in BestBuy and time soon, I will. However, i'm getting quite enough facts from the website so far to contradict you rather well. In fact, I don't know what else the in-store model could tell me. I know the iPod well enough already to tell you don't know half of what you think you do about it.

I'm sitting next to two at the moment, I own one and so does Roxy. They are really nice for the simple task of playing music on the go. Although for a person who has a lot of downloaded music, you will have to re-tag incomplete id tags in your mp3 files because unlike previous Archos products the ipod relies on the id3 tag instead of the filename. I hated this at first but after I re-organized It worked out fine for me.

I guess I ended up "winning", if you wanna call it that. Archos' are blown up PC toys. iPods are some serious hardware. I've stated my points about the issue, and approached yours. If you're gonna give up, fine. But don't tag it on me. I was enjoying myself anyway.

No, if I wanted to remain individualized, I would chose the least popular of the 10 colors of ipods. I explained categorically how archos was better at making mp3 players than mac, and succeeded in doing it.

Yeah, totally. It looks like he has nothing to offer to our discussion about Archo vs. iPod. He seems only out to flame me now. Sorry it went the wrong way, even though I enjoyed the discussion.
It just goes to show you, there is alot more to the iPod then people think. Most people see it this way because of of their add campain. They think it's a fasion statement when it's not. The iPod Mini's ARE however.
Ok, time for a rant about the iPod Mini.
The iPod Mini's really are a joke. They mostly are for fasion since they don't hold enough storage for anything. 4gb just isn't enough for someone with a moderate CD collection. The point of iPod is that you don't have to choose what you want on your mp3 player. You can just take it all and worry about what you want to listen to later. With the Mini, you have such limited space, you have to sort through your playlists and choose what you want in advance. I don't like that. I enjoy the iPod because I can't take ALL of my iTunes with me.
Another point about the iPod Mini being a fad is the colors. The normal iPod comes in ONE color. White. Fine with me. The Mini comes in FIVE colors! What's the point?
The Mini kinda reminds me of the G4 Cube phase. I'm surprised the Mini's have not died out faster.

Comparison of which specs? There are at least 5 models of ipods, and at least 10 mp3 players that archos makes. And some specs you can't really compare, like ease of use, because it's subjective.

I think I'm going to still stick with the Ipods, only because they are stylish, lol. And, they are less expensive then your archos. I don't want to spend 700 bucks for something that can only hold 500 songs, when I need something that can hold 10,000 songs and is capable with my Itunes program, which is where I can my downloaded songs from, and I organize all the songs from my files in there as well, and in turn, I have like 5 different playlists of like 15 songs each, my first one though has like 40. So, yea.

I like my iPod mini, it is simple, light and holds all the songs i need... i'll never listen to a thosand + songs in a day, so i'd never need more... and you can always just delete songs from it and add ones you want...
So what if the screen is simple... bare it mind it's an music player ~ a colour screen would just waste battery (must admit, iPod Photo is pointless...atleast for me it is), all i want it to do is play music, not brush my teeth, feed my cat and wipe my ass.
Anyway iPod is popular... but, anything that's good becomes popular, because it's worth buying... it's not a reason to bash it, if it wasn't any good, it wouldn't be popular, but people just want simple, clean and functionality from a music player, alot of the bells and whistles other players have either a/ won't be used, b/ drain battery or c/ just plain suck...
That Archos thing is ugly as sin, and the menu's are terrible... like something from a tacky sci-fi movie from a bargain bin. And video on the move just doesn't work... atleast not for me, movies aren't made for tiny screen, only a large theatre screen or a decent widescreen TV does them justice, and most other video is pointless ~ it'd just be high cost novelty... besides, apart from illegally... how can you get movies or TV shows to put on it? :?

I hope people realize that the quality design and innovation that are present in the ipod is a reflection of all Apple products. I'm sure after owning an ipod, any other digital music player just won't do, and it's the same with Macs. I could never go back to PC's now.

Ipods are great i got to say that part. however, in Colorado, especially in my school's neighborhood's Ipod has became a fashion statement. here, in order to be "cool" and "normal", you must have some verison of an Ipod, and if you don't, people thinks that you are a loser. that part really annoys me.

I have a sh*ty mp3 player, a RIO or something. It's ok, but I want a new one.
Anyhow, once you rock the mp3 jawns... you can't go back to big bulky discmans. Plus, you don't have to keep burning new cds when you get some new music, you just dump it onto the mp3 player.
It's so much better.

I have a 4th Gen. 40 GB iPod and love it. I've never owned an mp3 player before this one before but it beats the hell out of any CD player. Personally I'm very satisfied with my iPod and wouldn't trade it in for any other MP3 player--easy to use, stylish, lots of space, can be used to store other files, etc.
There IS a reason why every PC review magazine names the iPod as the best mp3 player there is and they use it as a measuring stick for all others.

First of all, they are $250. Secondly, they are not a rip off. Apple pays close to $200 for the drives that are used in them because of their small size and state of the art design. You can't expect something that good to be cheap, they are very reasonably priced.

It's plays hi-quality, it's small and easy to take care of, my battery is fine and I have the added warranty incase anything does happen.
I don't know why all you people are complaining about it.
Edit: Plus it's simplistic. It just plays music in a stylish and reliable way. If you want all those extras in a music player, get a laptop or w/e.

I'm sorry, but I have to agree with Freak. For just $50 more, you can get 20gigs instead of 4. Mini's really are a waste of money, and are simply a fashion statement for rich wierdos.

Even though the Archo still does suck, you could find uses for that. Fansubbers would LOVE that. Also, I have 5gigs of AMVs. It'd be nice to take those on the road. None the less, I agree with what you said. I rather watch anime at home on the big screen.

Hell no. I'll pitch in an extra hundred bucks and buy an AV player that isn't goin to die in 18 months and cost 250 to have the battery replaced.
Go Ian, thats what I did :D Archos AV320 was $450, it can record video from TV, take pictures, take digital video, play movies or whatever video you put on the 20 gig HD (you can spring for a 40 or 80, or upgrade from a 20) + play MP3s, store pictures, and store whatever you want on there for transport between computers
www.archos.com if you want more info on the thing, they have a few newer products out, all great
edit:: archos only sucks for people who do not know about video editing and codecs and compression. If you are fluent with Codecs and VirtualDub and the like, then its for you, if not, guess what? it wasnt made for you anyway and youll never appreciate it, stay away from the good products.
to get movies on it? easy, DVD rip it onto it, and once again only a thing for people that know their way around the technology or are willing to find out how. I just put Boondock saints and The Transporter on my Archos today, both VERY EXCELLENT movies.... + some inflames and wesley willis
Wow that was some argument. Well anyway I was looking for some sort of mp3 player for a long time. My three finalists were the Nomad the Ipod mini and Iriver. In the end I chose the Ipod because the Nomad was a bit big and the cheaper Irivers were only 128 megs and stuff around that. When it got even close to how many gigs the Ipod mini had it was already more expensive. (don't quote me on that because that was a couple of months ago)
My reasons for buying it?
I've never owned a portable audio device in my life. Well...my bad...one and it was 20 bucks and lasted 2 days (what a waste haha). So I kinda felt like I deserved it because it's going to last me a long time. Believe me, if you really want something and you work, 400 bucks isn't that much. I don't get money from my rents or from birthdays and christmas or whatever. So price was no issue for me.
It fits alot. 1000 songs is more than enough for me
It's tiny. I can stick it in my jean pockets and you know how tight those can be.
It's green. I like green.
An added bonus was at the time no one had it at my school. I litterally was the only one (well the mini version) I'm not the type of person that gets all the new hi tech stuff. So that was kinda cool.
And the appearence. Hehe it's so pretty! Some of my friends were like....what the f*** 400 bucks screw that! But then they saw it and were like...wow I want it!
That may be superficial...but meh!
The only crappy thing is the battery. It only lasts 8 hrs. But maybe it's because my friend always borrows it behind my back and then when I go to use it there's almost none left. Plus I forget about the battery life sometimes.
Well there you have it! If you don't want one...don't die...just don't get one.

Well, this thread turned into some geeky, immature argument. I feel like I'm in highschool again only everyone jerks off to hentai.....
Anyway, I can easily afford an IPod but I have no interest in one. In all honesty, there are mp3 players out there that will fit in your pocket, hold about the same amount of songs, and have longer battery life. They end up costing about the same as an IPod. Some of them have nice features that are lacking on the IPod. Oh, and you don't need ITunes either.
I'm not saying one is better. It really depends on your taste and what you want out of your mp3 player. I'm just saying there are some alternatives.
Stop being such IPod nerds.

I've been an owner of an iPod for over a year now, and I never looked back. I have a 20GB 3G, and I just love it, I don't know what I did without it. It's easy to use, simple to dump songs onto and it looks fantastic yet simple at the same time. Before I bought an iPod I did look into other players such as the ARCHOS range and Creatives, but none really compared as far as ease of functionality is concerned.

1gig = $150
That's pretty retarded. Anything under 10 gigs just isn't worth it, and Apple keeps releasing Ipods with LESS space!!
I'm proud to have a huge fat 40 gig. A 512mb iPod? Why not just get a Rio with SmartMedia! OOO!!! *sigh* Apple's next flopper. However, the Mac mini looks like a good idea. The first REALLY cheap Mac.

ya jumping on the bandwagon here too, I'm also saving up for a mini *silver!* ^^;; Everyone at school either has an ipod, some other mp3 player, and of course the majority with cd players (like me). My bro has the big white ipod, and my little cousins (note that they're 10 and 13) have the mini with ther names inscribed on the back. I dunno my mom felt sorry for me cuz she sees me carrying my giant cd player and cds everywhere I go and shes tired of seeing that big old faded thing. lol
I dunno I like the mini $250, it holds 1,000 songs, pocket sized (so I wont have to use my shoulder bags to lug the bulkyness) which is good enough for me. As for the shuffler, I actually think thats a bit of a waste. It only holds 250 songs and thats just the one thats $150. I'm not sure how much the $99 one holds. I think its better for ppl who probably wont use it that much anyways or who dont know how to add stuff to it. My dad actually wants to get that just for when he's out walking around. At home he's got a stero, a high end radio my bro got for him, and a cd stero in the car.
Ipods are cool an' all, but there is something discerning about them. I don't like having the HDD integrated like that, I like to be able to replace it if it goes wrong.
I'm a fan of Hi-MD, all the way.

I really never intended to get one, but I did for Christmas. Seriously, just about EVERYONE at my school has one. They're cool though! I have a pink mini, but I think the green is the prettiest color. ^__^
GTO, while the Mac Mini is pretty kickass, there is no point to the Shuffle. They advertise no screens as a feature.
Two Screens = Feature (DS)
One Screen = Standard (iPods, most everything)
No Screen = Junk (iPod Shuffle)
I guess if you didn't want a bulky iPod (They aren't too bulky actually) to bring to the gym or something, this could be good.
(BTW, after upgrading the Mac Mini to an acceptable status, its about 1000 big ones.)
I got an iPod (20gig, 4G) for Christmas, and I'm fine. I was desperate for music, because my CD player broke 3 months before and all our bus driver plays is Country music. There's nothing wrong with it. I don't understand why people have to bash it. If your looking for a nicely designed music player/portable HDD, then get an iPod if you have the money. Sure, other things have nifty gadgets, but we're all listening to music on it mostly. I put online strategy guides, programs, notes, etc. on my iPod. It's pretty nice.
I don't understand the need for an iPod mini. Damn! iPods in colors! You mean I can get an iPod that's just a little smaller and a little less expensive, but costing me 16 gigs of space? Where do I sign!?
If you want your iPod in color, get a color case from www.lajo.biz or get it colored at http://www.colorwarepc.com/.
Why do you think they call it the shuffle? Cause there is no way to choose the song you want to listen to. That for me just kills it. I hope the track advance button on those shuffles are well built, because they are gonna get alot of use.
There's a book I saw at the MacWorld Expo last week called "How to Hack Your iPod" which is just that. Really making use of your iPod, including using it as a spare harddrive and even being able to run your iPod on Lunix! Yes, a prinny for your pod!
My girlfriend wants to order it soon. I'll let ya know how good it is.

There's nothing gross about iTunes. It's easy to use. You find the muisc you want, drag and drop it, and its in your library. When you plug it in, it will update your iPod withh all your music. You can make it update automatically, or manually (you have to drag and drop files.) It's really not a bad thing.
It's am easy to use interface for burning, importing, buying (who does that?), listening and importing songs to an iPod. While you can use your iPod as an external drive on any computer, you can't load your songs onto any computer.
