Anime Central Convention (Acen) Preview

Its getting closer and closer to Acen (Anime Central, the Chicago Anime Convention during May 16-18 (Friday-Sunday))

Pre-registration is now $40 until April 15, 2003.
all information about Acen is at their website http://www.acen.org

I already know I'm going. I pre-registered around November. So I know I'm in.

There WILL be an A4 get together. Maybe during the day of Pre-registration Pick up (May 15<--I'm assuming this is the day).

...ANYWAY

I know that Avi-chan will be going but hasn't bought her ticket yet. Jess: EBG is going. Ein the Woof woof is also going. Cid is also going. Neese is going. So is Hideki.

Anyone else i'm missing? type type type.

Also any suggestions on what to do at the "Meeting"? We could meet at some of the hotel rooms you guys are staying at.

...The restaurants there...I haven't checked on pricing.

McDonalds is also another nearby place to eat, but i had some objections to this.

If you research around the Hotel (Hyatt) check around that area for anything.

Avi is open to any suggestions you might have, Please pm her. A lot. I AM a bastard.

Umm.. Also if you intend to Cosplay please state who you might be. Just wanna know who you will be out of total curiosity. ^_^

Hmm, I HATE McDonalds and I can't eat any meat there, i can do breakfaster that, and i'll get salads, so i guess it would be ok :) The last time I ate fast food I was with Cid and we had Wendys, it didn't work out too well for eaither of us if I recall. Its great!
Last year was my first year.

Depends on what day you go.

But no matter what day you go on, there's always the Game room, the Vendor Area, The Signings aka Autographs (celebrities vary based on day), the anime rooms (each hour and each room has anime. There's a schedule of time of what is shown on each hour of each day)

There's a whole bunch of stuff!

And you get to see people dress up in very interesting..or very bizarre (i.e. Sailor Bubba) costumes.

I hope you do come...although that China trip also sounds great too!

If you want to get involved-


Read the complete rules and eligibility info and fill out the downloadable entry form. The complete rules and downloadable forms can be found on the Big Apple Anime Fest website, bigappleanimefest.com. Bring the signed form and yourself to one of the event (Anime Central, Saturday 5/17, 3PM). You must have a prepared reading (monologue, scene, etc.) of NO LONGER than ONE MINUTE in length. The source of this material can be from anything you with (an anime, a play, a film, etc.) You must be legally employable and at least 18 years old with proof of age (Bring ID!!) to enter. IF YOU PLAN ON ATTENDING AND PARTICIPATING, PLEASE READ THE RULES AND FILL OUT THE FORM.


Contest officials will be selecting contestants at random to come up and do their thing in front of the live audience and our panel of judges. From the initial group of contestants doing prepared readings, ten will be selected to move on to the next event which will be a cold reading to picture (trying to match lip-flap). From these ten, three winners will be selected.


The three winners from Anime Central will win an anime prize pack and a free weekend pass to The Big Apple Anime Fest 2003 where they will move on to the semi-final round. The semis will be held at BAAF in New York City on Saturday August 30th, 2003. The finals will be at BAAF on Sunday August 31st, 2003. All regional site winners are responsible for their own travel expenses and accomodations for BAAF.


Please note- all Big Apple Anime Fest Anime Idol Voice Acting Contest events will be videotaped. All contestants and participants must sign a release and be willing to have their voice and likeness recorded on video.


All audience members- by entering this event, you are consenting to be recorded on video. If you're hiding from the mob or your parole officer and don't want to appear on camera, or if you just don't want to be videotaped- do not attend.

Well I looked around the Hotel Area. The Food is pretty ...blah.
You got McDonalds...But I don't feel like putting a smile on there..

The hotel has places to eat.....'cept its major dinero. (price range from $9-$20)

...Then Me and Kyuu found Giordanos, Restaurant and Pizzeria!

So, i decided we can either A)walk over to Giordanos..(not that far really) or B) order from Giordanos and have the a4 meeting inside the hotel in one of the hotel rooms ...or both hotel rooms..

I'm not staying in the hotel where ACen is going to be. I'm staying at a hotel that is a lot cheaper. Two nights at this hotel will cost me about 56 dollar because KaoAvel is paying they other 56 dollars, that comes to $112 for two nights between the two of us. SO cheap! ^_^

i get to go :D but have a realy screwed up scedual their. i go in friday spend the night at the hyat. saturday i get to stay till about3:30 then i have to come home for prom and go to dinner and the dance with my girlfriend. then decide weather to stay home if iam to tiered. or with every last ounce of energy drive back to the hyat at about 2 or 3 am and wake my friends up and sleep at the hyat the second night as well and then later on sunday go back home yet again :cry: way to much drive time :cry:

IMPORTANT DDR INFO

If you didn't already know, the machine they will have at ACen is 8th Mix. There are over 200 songs available on the machine so it shouldn't be hard to pick a song for competition that will be on the machine. If you want more songs on the machine than that are listed, press the left & right arrows, on the machine not the dancepad, at the same time twice. This will list the songs in alphabetical order and will contain more songs. If you can't find a machine that reads "Dance Dance Revolution 8th Mix" look for the japanese version titled "Dance Dance Revolution Extreme". KaoAvel and I can travel to a local arcade to practice but if you can't find one to practice on you could always cough up $5495.00 to buy the machine, but I doubt anyone here has that much money for a DDR machine right now. That's pretty much all I came to post about so, see ya later.

The Pickup time is 8Pm. Unless you wish to pick your badge up on the day of Acen (good luck)

If you did NOT pre-register.

Then the date to buy your badge is May 16th starting at
8am.

However, I read in the Acen Forums, that it MIGHT be possible to buy a badge on the Pre-registration badge pickup day. More info to follow. But until then, if you did NOT pre-register, the date of pickup is May 16th at 8am.

I play a lot but I'm a n00b to the game. The best combo I got was on Healing Angeic Vision Remix; 188 combo. I'm working on a routine for Rhythy and Police with KaoAvel. We have a bit over 30% of the song memorized, and we have a routine for that much of the song so far.

Everyone will definitely be searching out the game room when we get there, since most people that are going seem to be pretty hardcore DDRers (or gamers, depending).

Therefore, why don't we set up a time on Friday to meet outside the game room, and go from there?

I really don't think my record to handle another 5 detentions (the equivelent of a Level, which you get at my school for ditching) I have enough already for not being able to get to early early morning gym class (starts at 7:30 and you can't be a minuet late) I've tripled my total detentions this year, as opposed to the 5 I had the last three years combined.

Aya-kun don't worry about getting a receipt. If you mailed your pre-reg thing in for sure before the deadline, you're all right. (ALthuogh if you REALLY wanna know, I suggest you email one of the guys there (the Registration guy...dunno who he is))

All you need is identification when you get your pre-reg badge on thursday.

Well you don't HAVE to only go on friday. You can buy a ticket for any three days of the convention. I just used Friday for my example.

The problem with DDR is that there are certain tricks you need to know which make the hardest songs easier. The problem is, if you haven't been doing those for a while it can be hard to change your form. Anyways, i gots bad news, my frined who was gonna come to acen with me, cancelled his birthday party yesterday, and moved it to next saturday, which was when I was gonna go to acen! Which means now I can only go to acen in the morning. Unless it rains on saturday, cause then the party would be canceled again.
