I'm basically starting this project because I know there are some awesome Japanese metal bands out there, I just haven't found out who they are. I only know of about 4 right now, and I'd really like to see what else they have to offer in the metal genre.

Alright, here goes:

Sigh - Pseudo black metal with heavy psychadelic influences. Supposed to be extremely good, although I haven't heard anything from them yet.

Shadow - This band I have heard. They've got a really derivative gothenburg sound, but the lead singer is female and manages to put out some very impressive In Flames-esque vocals.

Church of Misery - These guys are a really slow doom metal group that sings about serial killers. I've heard some of their stuff too. Its slow and grisly, but the production quality isn't bad, and they also seem to be fairly well known in doom metal circles.

Japan X - Well, I'm debating putting these guys here, because they fit better into the J-Rock category. But since some of their songs do lean more into the metal side of things, I'll put them here for completeness. Anyways, as far as I can tell, they're Japanese hair-metal.

Well, i do know there is a Japanese .. (or Korean, not sure) KoRn. They produced "Tank" for an OST 5 of unreleased Bebop.

Here's a couple more:

Loudness - A really impressive 80's-esque band that has alot of the hair-metal sound without the hair. They're surprisingly good, and apparently did manage to make a tiny little dent in the US market. Highly recommended.

Kings Evil - Tokyo based thrash metal band. Supposedly pretty impressive, but I couldn't find any MP3's from them and I'm pretty sure they don't even sing in english.

Alright, a couple more to add:

Animetal and Animetal Lady - These guys are dedicated to making hard rock versions of your favorite anime tunes. A great singer and some really talented playing here. Their version of Mazinkaizer RULES, and their Sailor Moon cover is awesome. Even if you don't listen to much metal, I urge you to give these guys a chance.

Abigail - Underground Japanse black metal group. These guys ended up being pretty unknown, but they have a total Venom-style riff worship from the little bits I've heard. Pretty raw, but if you don't mind low production quality and a really raw sound, you'll probably like them.

Sabbat - These guys have been around practically forever. Most of their releases are self-funded EP's, and released in really limited amounts. Apparently, they're still around, too. The tiny shred of these guys that i've heard has been mid-paced death metal, with a very brutal, raw sound. Not really my style, but they've acheived some notoriety in the death metal scene.

Go there. It has every Japanese metal band I've ever heard of, a ton more, and a whole bunch of hard rock ones too. Some of the links are out of date, but if you want a complete band listing, go there.

Mika Bomb - I know nothing about this female J-Rock group, so I can't really comment.

You could say feeder are partly J-rock since their bassist Taka Hirose is Japanese, but they've always been known as a British band because of lead singer Grant Nicholas and their drummer, the late Jon Lee, who are both welsh.
