I've seen them all... including the Pretty Sammy anime and the Tenchi movies, and even the Agga Ruta hentai.

The original series was great, and Universe was also very good. Tenchi is the show that brought in a lot of anime fans in the late 90's... it was one of the first anime Cartoon Network aired, so it still holds a special place in a lot of fans' hearts.

I think it confused a lot of people, though, because each new series was completely unrelated to the last except for the same characters (Ryoko was a demon in one, a space pirate in another, a naughty schoolgirl in another, etc).

But, Tenchi Muyo and Universe still rank in my top 10 anime of all time. Besides, for many older anime fans, the first naked anime babe they ever saw was Ryoko :-)

Yeah, the first Tenchi series was good. Then GXP came out and it just didn't fit.

I remember liking Tokyo, it's not as good as the others, true, but it wasn't bad at all.

I've been going my whole life saying that Universe was my favorite series, but I recently rewatched it and it wasn't that good. It wasn't as funny as the OVA's and the story wasn't as deep. But OVA has it's flaws too, I never liked the idea of Tenchi's dad being a Jurian as well, and I love Achika. Then there's the big one: no Kiyone, just that stupid Noike ***** who was a wannabe Kiyone. Also, the whole incest thing.... If they could somehow come up with a new series that mixes the elements of the OVAs with Universe, it'd be perfect.

Yeah that would be perfect to mix elements of both series, I didnt like third OVA that much i thought it sucked, universe was my favorite.

The third OVA was okay i agree but, It was Tenchi so i loved it.

I agree that having no Kiyone makes the OVA a little less fun. That and some of the other things like Tenchi's father being a Jurian and all that. Totally agree with you. Still, I loved watching Tenyi Muyo and the latest part of the OVA in Ryo Ohki. It was a nice anime and one of the many that I loved in the 90's.

Tenchi Universe was classic. I wish they had done something like that again after Tokyo but they went and gave us GXP which wasnt even liked in Japan. It just wasn't Tenchi. I remember so many people having problems with Tokyo but I guess it grew on them over the years.

The movies were alot of fun. My favorite was the first followed by the one that had some girl crushing on Tenchi and naked in a hotspring. I can't remember much....I guess I'll go and rewatch that. XD

It's sad that we don't have a Tenchi forum any longer. I posted there more than most places.

Tenchi Muyo. Jesus, it’s been awhile since I've gotten aquatinted with that show. I remember being twelve years old and catching that on Toonami back when it was showing the classics like "Outlaw Star" before the good stuff got shipped to Midnight Run (and eventually Adult Swim.). It was funny; because I had to make sure my mom didn't catch me watching it because she disliked it for the obvious reasons, of course. Those were the days, folks.

Hah, a fun little note is that this was before I discovered manga and MST'ing bad lemon fanfiction on the TMFFA. Now those were good times.

Well, I don't care how old it is, it's still the best anime ever. You young whipper snappers with your Bleach and your Code Geass and your Death Note don't know what real anime is!

Hah, my friend is in love with Code Geass and keeps showing me all of this fan video bullsh*t on YouTube that I don't care about. My thing is that once you've seen the classics, the more famous ones? You've seen them all, basically. It's harder to get me hooked on an anime than it was when I was a youngin'.

Can't say I've seen all the classics, my viewings of various anime is sparce. I'm more of a manga reader myself.

Indeed. As I've said before those were the good ol' days. You tend to wonder how those shows made it to basic cable without the channel exec's slamming the b&hammer down immediately.

I remember all that good stuff. The line up was around Sailor Moon, Tenchi, Outlaw Star, and Dragon Ball Z I think. I believe Yu Yu Hakusho was thrown in the mix as well?

@Calbob: I loved Ryoko.

It's OLD and discussion on it is pretty much dead. Nevertheless, Tenchi is one of the best series out there -- despite the franchise dying by the later series - starting with Tenchi in Tokyo. As for Pretty Sammy, I flat out ignored that one.

Tenchi was probably the first anime I've ever stuck with, which led me to the anime fan I am now... so it holds a place in my heart. I remmeber watching it on the international channel every chance I could get. My favorite was Universe... they're the only Tenchi dvds I collected... but I have to admit I liked the depth of OVA more. Like many of you said, what made Universe a little better was Kiyone's character.

Yes...If it wasn't for Tenchi i probably wouldn't have been that big on anime but, Seeing those characters react to each other and seeing a series that really just basically focused on everyday life really caught my attention to anime and....I been hooked ever since.

Ahhh the good ol' days.......

Tenchi Muyo was soo great one of my first anime series that was a long time ago though.

In order it would look something like this.

Tenchi Muyo! (13 eps)

Tenchi Universe (26 eps)

Tenchi In Tokyo (26 eps)

Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-ohki 3rd OVA (6 eps)

Bit confusing when you get into the whole "OVA specials" (I.E Mihoshi special) but, I would just watch it like that beside its Tenchi anyway you watch it...It's great.

And then of course theres the 3 movies, Pretty Sammy and the fan hated Tenchi GXP which a lot would say to skip i haven't seen it so i cant tell you yes or no.

Hope that helps....If you want more info just wiki it.

I have recently started watching this show(Tenchi Muyo, to clarify) again. I love going back to a show I haven't seen for 10 years(OMG!) and thinking about the characters as they were at the beginning. Take for instance Tenchi, he seems so naive. Oh the little scamp.

BTW would this be considered the first harem anime?

Perhaps the first pure harem anime (though, I'm no anime historian), meaning it was the first to use the formula of a bunch of hot chicks living in a house with a gay guy they all have the hots for.

Tenchi is not gay...He's just not a perverted freak (Like most of us ;)) and he just doesn't want to "hit" on anyone because he thinks of all the girls as family...However yes there is some sexual tension there (obviously) but thats perfectly natural....If there wasn't then i would rethink Tenchi's preference.

I enjoyed it when I found out that Tenchi was based on "I dream of Jeannie". It totally makes sense if you think about it. Ha!

Of course we all know RYOKO is the one who gets him in the end.

Tenchi in Tokyo... how can I express my hatred of Sakuya? I mean besides the time i replaced her in the "Ways to kill Barney" list? She ruined Tenchi and RYoko's date!

On the other hand Tenchi and Ryoko had a date and in he end as always it had the two of them alone together.
