For those who never heard of this, its an action/horror manga. There is a 10 episodes OVA for this series, though i never seen them all. This manga tells a lot about Japanese mythology so expect a lot of unique enemies. The funny part is Ushio and Tora could resemble Calvin and Hobbes due to their jokes and actions towards each other.
Basically the story is Ushio's family has kept the demon Tora and the legendary Beast Spear locked underground. Being placed in Modern Japan, Ushio doesn't believe his Grandpa's stories. So as he was cleaning up, he finds Tora's prison underground. Tora was trapped by the Beast Spear and it could only be pulled out by a human. Suddenly Ushio's friends (who happened to came over) are attacked by lesser youkais. Having no choice Ushio frees Tora and wields the Beast Spear. Together they defeat the youkai. Now Ushio holds the responsibility to repel Youkais and keep Tora in check. Tora on the other hand will wait for the chance to eat Ushio when he lets his guard down (and probably spear).
Notes: The reason Ushio could see Youkai and such was because of Tora's Youki. Also thats the reason the lesser Youkai's came. Finally the Beast Spear is a weapon designed to fight and destroy Youkai, it also transform the user (somewhat).
