The first Gurren Lagann movie, Gurren-hen, is out, so why aren't you talking about it?
At two hours long I thought they'd struggle to fit all of what they planned to include into the first movie but things went pretty smoothly. However, since a few of the early episodes were zipped through via a montage the layman will be left wondering who the hell Kittan and co, Rossiu, Gimmy and Darry are. It was a little disappointing to see bits episode four thrown in all it's glorious QUALITY.
A lot of animation was taken from the anime series, I'd say about 40% was new animation mostly reserved for the later part of the movie though some of the important scenes early on had shots that were redone slightly.
The biggest change was having Simone and gang fight Adiane, Cytomander, Guame and Viral all the same time directly after the first encounter with Adiane. It was pretty awesome, especially the fight between Adiane and Yoko.
I'm looking forward to the next movie.
