You'd think that something that's made to make fun of things wouldn't be all that interesting plot-wise but in the original series there's a couple of really interesting things going on in the show that are worth mentioning. From a writing standpoint one of the worst things you can possibly do when you're trying to introduce a brand new viewer to your work is waste time. Anytime you're not progressing the plot, establishing the characters, or using any number of the countless literary techniques to set your story apart is time you can never make up again. At best you'll bore your viewer as they struggle through to get at whatever you did to get their attention in the first place and at worst you'll lose them altogether ...

There's a moment in "Cowboy Bebop" that I really like that I don't think many people give much thought to. It happens in the eighth episode, "Waltz For Venus", and it's very, very brief. But it does so much for one character in so little time that I have to commend it in writing. I'm going to try and not give things away for the three of you who haven't seen this series yet so forgive how vague I'm going to put all of this.
