I've observed Chinese New Year for A few years now. Since I have some really distant Chinese ancestry and It vaguely accents my appearance.. it seems A bit odd why I'm interested in the holiday to most people who are unaware of that part of my ancestry.

P.S. My brother was born in the year of the Snake..he has none of those characteristics, except the proud and cunning part.

Ancient Chinese wisdom says a Snake in the house is a good omen because it means your family will not starve. This could be taken metaphorically to mean that a Snake could never have a problem with his family starving because he is such a great mediator, making him good at business. Or it could mean that a Snake would be willing to sacrifice his possessions, something the Snake has a lot of, in order to pay for his family’s food. Any way it is interpreted is representative of the Snake’s character and is a measure of the value he puts on his material wealth. The Snake is keen and cunning, quite intelligent and wise.

I can think of at least one other reason why starvation may not the cause of death if a snake moved in.

You can google " contact my congressman" and you will find a contact page to instantly send a message and mine sometimes writes me back via post.

It's a topic of discussion everywhere at the moment. And as far as going about it the wrong way, even flickr has executed this image censorship tactic, darkening any images uploaded, if you're showing support, to metaphorically state that if this censorship act goes through they will be killing a venue of freedom and expression, and with the amount of lives lived through the internet these days, they will be killing a figurative side of us.

I showed support and signed the veto months ago. I hope it doesn't go through.

You’re going about this the wrong way. Simply censoring your avatar and signature isn’t going to do much of anything, you are spreading awareness yes but not supplying information of how to combat this act.

If you live in America you can contact your congressman and explain that you oppose this bill, there are a few ways to content them this is one of them. If you don’t have the time to write to them you can simply sign one of the many petitions and that’s also an option if you live outside the US.

I agree with the poem, it's a good concept. But like Volk said, some cultures will embrace a certain gesture, while another culture would condemn the exact same gesture. I was taught to make eye contact, but one person took it as an insult.
