I had to go through the series twice to get a grasp of the whole thing. Have you finished watching all the 13 episodes? I'm going by the assumption that you have finished it. Read this review:

The first 9 episodes shouldn't be much of a problem. The Wired connects people with each other at the unconscious level. Lain takes up a completely different personality on the Wired. She runs into the interest of The Knights but they are thwarted by Lain herself. The ending is a bit strange. She realizes she is a mere software and so rewrites everyone's memory to the time when she comes into existence( so as to relieve her friend Alice of her mental dilemma). Then Lain herself comes back to the real world after being unable to continue in the Wired alone.

The thing is I still ain't sure how the director establishes Lain as a software and the ending of how Lain realizes she is a software and her eventual return is a bit confusing. The review will clear your initial doubts. I plan on seeing it again after sometime and maybe I can get a clearer picture.

@Arch, imo Australian schools make sense, unlike other countries...
The big break goes at the end of the year. That is so normal.

Lol my bus isn't that bad. I just watch all the countless homeless/unfortunate people get dropped off at local catholic charities. My route never runs by other operations of that sort and its a pretty ****ty town

Atleast that's better than the time when I had a old drunk guy sitting next to me saying he will cut the throat of the bus driver and everyone was like O_O

At my school, you had to have an even size hair all around, not too short, and not past the collar, has to be your natural colour, no spikey gel.
