University :B

So this coming fall, I'll be going to a rather lovely university I've dreamed of attending since I was 13. It's not too far from home, only four hours, and the closest out of the four or five universities I had chosen to apply for. Yet it was the only place I applied to in the end. They accepted me the day after my marks were sent to them. So yay~.

However, it is expensive. I managed to make a 94 average over all (I don't know what that is as a GPA.. All my marks were 90s and 97s) because I wanted an entrance scholarship. I'm a vegetarian but didn't realize that all those staying in residence were required to have a meal plan since almost everyone I know who attend other universities don't (but then again it is a rural university, and they have a few places for you to get food from). I'm going on Friday to check out the food and rooms. :B

Also hoping I can get the loan I need. If I can't, I won't be able to go, and that's rather saddening for me. Other provinces seem to have their own types of loans they give to students attending university, but ours doesn't. Mine is more expensive since they offer quite a selection of different courses from other places. Happy since it has only 2300 students, although even that number scares me. haha I've never lived in a city, but this university, despite being in a rural community, is very close to several places I like to visit. I don't have a car, but one of my friends who is possibly attending will and she said I can go places with her (that is if her health condition allows her. We planned to live in an apartment meant for students, but got too worried she might not be able to go).

I'm still really nervous, about moving out. I've never moved before or traveled anywhere too far because my parents couldn't afford to. The university has done well at making me feel accepted as well as easing students into higher learning. The girl in charge of students from my area is extremely nice, and always draws smiley faces and little notes to everyone on admission papers and whatnot. They've done well with making me feel more comfortable about going, but I'm just so nervous...

Congrats, and its ok to be afraid at trying something drastically new like flying the nest. You can always visit scam food and do your laundry home as its near every other weekend.

My advice would be to only take on debts if the degree your going for leads to a high(ish) paying job. I don't mean Bill Gates type wages, and money definitely isn't everything regarding job satisfaction but....you know.....

    All the best Shi.

Aish, Snap, I HOPE I can get a high paying job, but I really don't believe in working just for money. :') My intent after university is to take a course on teaching English as a second language and going to two or so countries to teach (looking at South Korea. I've been doing a lot of research for two years now. Plus many people I know who have gone loved teaching at public schools there). I'd love to teach in my boyfriend's home country, but the pay is too low for me to be able to pay off my university debt (maybe someday, even for a little while). I don't plan on doing that forever, just until I can get that debt lifted (and so I don't have to buy a freakin' car).
