Yes it's been almost two weeks since and it's still the biggest thing on my mind. But I am nearly finished this epic tale of Soundwave.
So it is around 3:00 and Dean has disappeared. he went crowd surfing and then vanished into thin air leaving me and Josh behind to try and find him and of course he won't answer his phone no matter how many times we bloody ring him, nor will he meet up with us at any of the meeting palces we assigned earlier. So for hours me and Josh were waiting to find our lost little child who is ironically the oldest of the three of us.
We tried to get a better glimpse of the crowd down alongside the stage so that we can see the whole crowd from the front row to the back. For a while we were looking, but then Coal Chamber came on and well...We got distracted. Now those of you who know of Coal Chamber would know their image consisted of crazy dyed hair and really crazy styles and stuff, so their fans came in their droves, appearing out of nowhere to suddenly fill the crowd, standing out like candles in the dark. The funny thing is, when Coal Chamber took to the stage they had typical rock/metal clothes on, just all black and normal hairstyles. Funnier still was when throughout their set technical difficulties wer ebecoming increasingly apparent. Dez Farfara actually stopped play and said, "I've waited ten whole years, I can wait another ten minutes." Then of course following with, "So somebody fix up the ****ing power issue before someone DIES!!" For a while it seemed like it was fixed but then power issues struck again which Dez responded to quite calmly with, "OH FOR ****S SAKE!! Again?!"
Good times...
As soon as Coal Chamber finished the huge crowds practically vanished as In Flames took to the stage. We quickly stole some decent spots before the new rush swarmed over the field. Now In Flames are just ****ing amazing. They played old crowd favourites plus some of the new stuff, which I didn't like originally, but after hearing it live that has all changed. Incredible set, but way too short for such a huge band.
So now it was close to 5 and me and Josh were once again waiting at the gigantic fountain which was close to the metal stages and also our meeting place. Eventually Dean wound his way out of the crowd and found us. Supposedly he had been crowdsurfing all over the place, snatching front row spots for the past five or so bands. But now that we were back again we decided to seize a good place for Mastodon but a lot of people got the same idea so we only managed to get about fifth row which was still good but could have been better, especially since I was the smallest person in the crowd, among some literal giants.
Now when Mastodon took the stage there was no wait for a mosh pit to start up. This was actually my first ever time in a mosh pit and I have to say it was ****ing fun! I got knocked flat on my ass a few times but the other people are really kind and pick you right back up. There was one guy however... The literal giant I was talking about who had made it a point to get into the pit of every band all day long. We had seen him before, charging through the crowd from the back all the way to the pits down near the front for every single band, charging like some blood-crazed monster just knocking people out of his way. And no kidding when he was trying to get into the Mastodon pit (Of which I was getting out of at that point because, well everyone was so much larger than me that the sun was blocked out) he ended up behind me and he wanted in real bad. So much so that he, and I'm dead serious when I say this, he picked me up with his hands under my shoulders and threw me out of the way. I swear to god I ****ing flew and I crashed into a bunch of people who all were thankfully quite forgiving considering I think I spilled their beer. There was also a guy who bumped into me who must have been a human sponge. he was so drenched in sweat that when he rammed me I got splattered and yeah...It was kind of gross but who the hell cares?! Mastodon is awesome!
But that was enough fun. I wanted to get to another stage early for a front row spot for The Pretty Reckless. So I made my way to one of the empty hangars (The only real word to describe them) and tried to snatch a front row spot but god damn those fangirls get there even earlier than me! I could only get third row and to the side but it was still a great spot. The band on the other stage sounded like crap and it was a struggle to stay there but I didn't want to lose such a good spot for the next band so I just patiently waited while me and like five other guys (Pretty much the only males in the audience) became swamped by fangirls.
And then all the lights went out...
