I've renamed my dog - Pissyarse

For some reason, my 11 year old terrier cross has decided that it is a good idea to wee in his bed. He has artritis but that hasn't caused him much bother since he has meds for it and he leads a normal pain free life.

So, we thought, maybe he has a urinary tract infection. Nope, trip to the vet and there was nothing. Little bastard is just to lazy to pee when he goes outside, or something, I dunno. Thinking of taking away his bed so that he has to sleep on the floor and see if that solves the problem.

He's clever and knows it's wrong because he looks at me with a guilty face when he knows he's about to get in trouble. lol.

I am seriously turned off owning any more pets after this.

I'm thinking incontinence due to his age. Did the vet just check for infection? Diabetes also springs to mind and I doubt the dog is doing it on purpose.

Not sure. 11 is old, but it isn't that old. All my other dogs lived past 15 and didn''t have issues til maybe 14 or 15.

Would diabetes cause him to pee in his bed? The thought did cross my mind since he's been drinking a hell of a lot of water recently, but my Mom said it's just because of the dry food. He's on a dry food diet because he was getting too fat and the vet said not to feed him on canned food anymore.

When I say he knows it's wrong, I mean he knows he's going to get shouted at for doing it, but still happening. Lol he associates "PISSYARSE" with his bed wetting now. lol.

It would cause him to pee more. Is it easy for him to go outside without alerting anyone (dog flap? lol)? Might be hard for him to hold it in, although he may just be getting lazy/fat, but if he's insured you might as well get him a proper checkout.

And yeah, cross-breeds tend to live longer than 8-10 years pure bred (and expensive may I just add) manage usually.

Haha, no we don't have a dog flap, but he used to always look to get out and bark if no one was in the room to open the door.

If he keeps doing it, I'm going to take him in to the vet again. He's not insured, but meh, I can't have him doing that if it can be helped and don't want him to make a habit of it. Then if there is still nothing physically wrong, he's gonna lose his comfy bed for a while so he can be trained not to do it.

All our other dogs were pure bred border collies and the ones that lived to old age were 15, 16 and 16. One was killed when it was younger.

An update on this. Turns out there is nothing wrong with him what so ever apart from pure laziness because he doesn't like the cold.

We took away his cushy bed insert and replaced it with a rug. He does not pee on the rug and does his business outside. Of course, he has to be made go pee every night before we go to bed, otherwise he normally won't ask to go out. However, the night after he was given the rug as his cushion for his bed, he came down and whined at my bedroom door to go outside at 5am. That proves that he can help it. lol. He missed the duvet type thing because it soaked everything to the bottom.

A guy in the pet store said that sometimes older dogs get like that and you have to continue to do what I have been doing by standing outside with him and ordering him to go pee. Grrrr. Just great!

Is he still peeing inside? Or is he being a good doggy?

He's not peeing inside anymore because we took away his cushy bed. Now he gets a small rug inside his basket to sleep on. It is less comfortable, but if we give him the soft cushy thing, he'll pee on it. We learned that if we give him something that won't absorb wetness, he won't pee on it. He's goddamn clever for a mutt.

This is why I would prefer a kitten......
