So you don't f*cking care?

OH EM GEE. I swear to phuck, I wanna strangle people when they say "I could care less." At least if you're going to tell someone that you don't care, don't say it arse side up. The damn phrase is "I couldn't care less." Common sense would tell you that saying "I could care less" means that there is room to care less, meaning that you care, while saying "I couldn't care less" means that you couldn't possibly care any less than you do right now. COMMON SENSE PEOPLE!

I dunno what this does to me, but it gets to me just a little more than someone saying "could of" instead of "could've. " Don't they teach English grammar in school anymore?

Now you know something that gets under Shannon's skin. >.>

People who literally never use that word in the proper context or needlessly get on my goat. Especially when its in 90% of the sentences they spew out.

    Why does this bother you?

I've noticed this sometimes as well..I think most modern day vocabulary is used out of context. It's so common that people don't even notice it anymore. It's become commonplace..

What blows is most people don't actually think about what they're saying..If they did..there maybe A chance that they might use it properly.

Also, It doesn't matter if they care or not.. because it's not like they're telling the truth anyways.

i could care less, but i'm commenting to show that i do care to some degree what you have to say. it's a bad habit; i should care less.

@Archangel: Actually, people do notice. Well us non-Americans notice because we say it the right way in general conversation. At least, from what I notice in real life. These things are sometimes regional where a certain word or phrase used wrongly or out of context become the norm.

    It's a pet hate, I can't help how I feel.
I'm a nitpicky bastard sometimes. XD

I know how you feel Shannon , sometimes in a train or somewhere in public when I hear people using words or phrases that actually do not exist in our language, then sentences look soo trashy being abused with so many irregularities. Or when people say the same word countless of times every 5 seconds -.-.

But when it comes to English well...I do feel bit embarrassed when I make mistakes. xD

@ Shannon: Lol I agree. I remember in Elementary school my teacher explained to the class that Americans tend to cut corners when it comes to conversational English in the United States..only because of the fact that "We're Lazy."

It is pretty interesting the amount of new words and slang emerge every year here in the U.S..I guess to keep up when society is changing at A fast pace.

But Shannon if I commented then I bothered to care enough to comment so I really could care less I could care so little as to completely ignore it.

Hank, you are such a Vessicator wannabe!

Hmm, could this be defined as slang, or just terrible grammar though? Something like 'whatcha' or 'dunno' are deliberate slang and totally acceptable, but something like 'could care less' or 'could of' is just bad English.

Yeah Proto you totally plagiarized Vess's work...XD

@ Shannon: It is terrible grammar. In the U.S. we just don't revert to the correct way of speaking. After all we did adopt English as A language.

We know that I couldn't have plagiarized him because that would imply that I read it and we all know that I am an illiterate redneck who can't read.

It's illogical, but generally gets a pass by most due to it being a colloquialism. It's even recognized as such by the Oxford dictionary. Both forms (the logical and illogical) mean the same thing, as the same thing is being expressed.

Still bothers me, and I'll always use the logical form.

Since I posted this blog, I did a little research on the phrase. From what I gather 'I could care less' was an ironic statement in response to someone saying 'I couldn't care less.' So say one guy said 'well I couldn't care less,' the other, in disagreement might say 'well I could.'

That's even sadder actually lol. It was used initially as a form of sarcasm. In this way, it works, but alone, it doesn't. It's illogical as you say. I guess people are too lazy to think about what they say.

I have heard someone say "L.O.L" in real life and I was like 'WHAT?' A thread in the forums stated 'I got TROLLED in real life.' They didn't get trolled, they got duped, got the wool pulled over their eyes or whatever you want to say there. I like to reserve trolling to acts of tomfoolery via the internet.

Stapling my sister's bedsheets together for instance, this isn't trolling, it's practical joking. Doing something on a similar scale to this online and I have done is trolling. The practical joke isn't exactly practical, but involves getting someone to believe something and watching their reaction when they find out they've been trolled. XD

I suppose if internet phrases are becoming the norm in reality, we are just gonna have to suck it up when it comes to bad English. Although, I am still going to use the correct grammer lol. Otherwise, it feels so damn wrong. >.>
