Jumping ship to a new job

I guess it feels weird for me to blog, but I'm completely bored and here on and off for quite some time.

I've recently been offered and accepted a new job and as a junior developer (i.e. code monkey) at a tech megacorp. They're saying it's full time permanent, but I have no clue if this tech megacorp really has the long term in mind for any employees right now or what kinds of projects they have in waiting. It's just been tough to turn down because I've never had that developer role before in my career and I think it would be a good place to start transitioning to that kind of IT role (away from the network analyst and business analyst type roles I had been in before).

It's such a risky decision for me, especially since my current position as an SAP analyst at a small consulting firm wound up being the perfect blend of business and technology. I've learned an absolute ton about how to get accounting info systems in place and working for a wide variety of businesses and been on at least 8-10 different implementations. I even have former customers messaging me on linkedin to see if I could do some side work for them (which I can't). But at the same time, this tech mega-corp has lines dedicated to SAP as well, so that could soften some of the risk, but the projects I worked on are ridiculously small in comparison (giving away who it is much?).

I'm still a week out from starting and will likely be put through a few weeks of java training before starting any actual projects. I think I'll be curious to see what developers here are like. I'm sure it will run the full gambit of personality types.

Ah following me I see (JK)

I hate networking, good on you for moving away from that. I have always been fascinated with servers and data migration based work, they give me the most enjoyment and satisfaction. SAP is something I have never messed around with, but I'm highly interested in learning about it.

Development is an interesting thing that require a lot of patience. There is some real bucks to be had in it though, I wish you good luck.

@Pured: It's far more boring than that

@Red_Dragon: Yeah, there's definitely tiers to IT jobs I think. Being network support guy certainly was boring. SAP and business stuff is more interesting, but it's more accounting that technical stuff. I spent a ton of time migrating customer and vendor data. And inventory balances. And creating charts of accounts. and tweaking reports for users. About the only really technical thing I regularly did was install and configure SQL server.
