Torrenting in America

Ayo, so I'm supposedly moving to the states within the next few months and I was wondering; do they care if you torrent anime? Given that it's from Japan and all that. Because it is to my understanding that people get pretty upset over there if you torrent American TV shows and movies, etc. I could be wrong on all of that, but idek. Anyways, an answer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If it's a foreign production I don't believe it's subject to US laws unless a studio has purchased the rights to distribute said product in the states (I could be wrong).
