Idea for a Story

I've had an idea for a story in the back of mind for awhile now. I think this idea would be great for a story, but I'm not sure whether I should go forward with it or not. Part of what I would like to write about in my story is something I don't have very much experience with.

If I did decide go forward with it, would the story feel fake because I don't actually have experience with the subject matter? Like for example, if I decided to write a romance story, should I actually have romantic experience in order to write said story? I personally believe it would be hard to write a story about subjects I don't have experience with, but that's just my opinion. I would be interested in hearing others' opinions on that.
