CYOAs and RPGs
|
So about four years ago, back in 2010, I came across this Choose Your Own Adventure website called "Create Your Own Stories", a fan fiction kind of website with a wiki format.
You know those CYOA stories back in the old days? Stories like "Give Yourself Goosebumps" and "Choose Your Own Nightmare", for example. Here, you get to write your own CYOA stories as well as contribute to others. And with how lengthy CYOA stories can be, what with their countless choices and whatnot, you bet your ass that there's a lot of contributions needed. In fact, there are a lot of dead CYOA stories there because people got bored after writing the first 10-20 choices of the stories.

I kinda got interested in that site again recently, seeing as how the writing standards are pretty lax, as long as you use decent grammar. You could just write a few paragraphs of narrative for a single choice and it would still be acceptable. Thus, it can be fun when you have a free afternoon and an active imagination.
In other news, I also got interested in roleplaying again - forum play-by-post roleplaying, that is - and I got myself into this forum called "Roleplayer Guild", where there are different standards of RPGs for your pick, depending on the level of writing you feel comfortable with.
Not good with writing? Then take a look at the "Free Roleplay" section, where writing standards are mostly non-existent. Though some of the GMs there still have some rather stringent rules, they are probably in the wrong section, considering it's the "Free Roleplay" section where anything goes.
I think I'll get my feet wet with the Free Roleplay section for now before I advance to the next level, "Casual Roleplay". I've already joined an RPG that deals with characters from all across every medium of fictional existence, from anime to video games, coming together in a museum that houses pictures depicting scenes from fictional stories. It's just my kind of RP, where I can be any fictional character I want. I chose Sayaka Miki this time.

Well, at least this kills my free time. I'm not exactly big on writing stories, but this will do for now. Should keep me from getting bored.
