Legacy: Entry#9

Its been awhile since I posted anything, I've been working hard on finishing my third book. I've hit some bumps along the way but I think I'm on the right track to completing it. in the meantime I wanted to try something new. I'm going to post the first chapter of my third book for those who may be interested in reading it. If your interested in my first two books, you can check them out here: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_no...+the+arkadians
I'll continue to post more of the story as it becomes available.
In the Dromahar district of the city of Leitrium, just east of Delta Academy a small team gathers in a secret facility underneath an abandoned building in the old business sector. A plan is being devised on the infiltration of Delta Academy to retrieve sensitive information linked to Dr. Norman Clay, Ghost, and his work on the Arc Serum. The leader of the team, Dante Flynn, discusses the first phase of the mission with Melissa Hall and Cassie Evans inside their situation room.
“…Alright, this is the target,” said Dante as he pulled up a picture of Delta Academy on the large display screen on the wall.
“What’s the situation as it stands right now?” Melissa asked.
“For the past few years leading up to the latest school year, there was a secret organization working within the school,” Dante explained. “They called themselves Ghost. They have been linked to the deaths and disappearances of multiple students. There were also reports linking them to hostile terrorist activities and aggressive violence towards the authority of the institution. Until recently they’ve managed to keep their operation a secret.”
“So what changed?” Cassie asked. “How were they compromised?”
"A hand full of students worked together and exposed Ghost, ultimately shutting down there entire operation.”
“So what’s our job in all of this?” Melissa asked.
“Our job is to retrieve any data that may still exist about this Serum, that Ghost was experimenting with,” Dante replied. “It was reported that members of Ghost used multiple bases while on campus. We’re going to see if there is any useful data left behind on any of their networks that can be of use to us."
“So what do you want us to do?” asked Jack.
“Nothing right now,” replied Dante. “This part of the mission is covert; Cassie and Melissa can handle it.”
“Are you trying to say that we don’t know how to be covert on a mission?” Hagan asked.
“That’s exactly what I’m saying,” Dante replied as he turned his attention to them. “This phase of the mission simple, we’re just collecting data right now. Don’t get too anxious you two; they’ll be plenty for you to do during the next phase.”
“So what’s our strategy for getting in?” Cassie asked.
“Since school is on summer break right now the campus will basically be empty.”
“So we’ll basically be able to walk right in no problem then,” said Melissa.
“Not exactly,” Dante responded as he brought up another picture on the display screen. “If classes were in session right now it would be a lot easier with the sheer volume of students. But now we have to worry about them.
The picture on the display screen was of Ethan, Aiden, Naomi, Victor and Alice.
“So this is them huh,” said Jack.
“This individuals you see before you are the ones who exposed Ghost and forced them out of Delta Academy,” Dante explained. “They now head a new division that will serve to protect the integrity of the institution.”
“You make it sound like they’ll be impossible to get pass,” said Jack as he propped his feet up on the table in front of him. “Just assign me to the mission and we’ll retrieve the data in no time at all.”
“What part of covert don’t you understand?” Melissa asked.
“I understand just fine thank you,” Jack replied in mild annoyance. “And no one was talking to you by the way.”
“Can you two please not get started,” said Cassie. “Please finish Dante, how are we to infiltrate?”
“We’re going to use the Alliance as our in,” Dante continued. “For the next few weeks representatives from the Alliance government will be attending annual meetings at the Academy to discuss many details about routine changes, and improvements to the campus. As well as scholarships and grants, the list goes on. The parties will be quite large so we can use that as our way to get on campus without any problems. And with your position with the Alliance Melissa it shouldn’t be that hard to make sure that we’re included on the invitations.”
“It shouldn’t be a problem for me to put Cassie and me on the list as attendees’” Melissa responded as she typed away on her laptop. “I’ve also looked at a map layout of the campus, there are a few places we can use as access points as long as we know what networks to access.”
“That won’t be a problem,” replied Dante. “Our connection on the inside will make sure that to have everything ready for us when we arrive."
“And just so we’re clear, this might take some time,” said Melissa.
“Care to elaborate?” Dante asked.
“You that these people used multiple bases of operation, so that means that they may have been using multiple networks and we can’t be sure which one will have the information we’re looking for,” Melissa explained. “These people were careful to cover their tracks for two years, so this won’t be easy.”
“So what exactly are you saying?” Jack asked.
“I’m saying that this mission might take more than one attempt,” Melissa replied. “With every attempt to hack there network will leave us exposed to being discovered. The key is being as fast as possible with each attempt,” she explained as she sat back in her chair and crossed her arms. My thinking is as soon as we get into the network and open one of those encrypted files we’ll be flagged. They’ll try to lock us out of the network and even try to pinpoint our location to find out where the hack originated. We may be able to avoid that for time but if we want to succeed we can’t linger and draw undue attention to ourselves. For the scope of the search there just isn’t enough time to get it done all in one trip, we have no choice but to do it this way."
“I agree with Melissa,” said Cassie. “I’ll be there to back her up but we should try to avoid any confrontations while on campus.”
“…Ok then, this is your mission, so you two handle it as you see fit,” said Dante. “We’ll continue to gather as much intel as possible to help make your job easier.
“The best way to do that would be to check all official reports that came out of the school about the incident that occurred there,” Jack said. “Surely there can be some useful information that can be used."
“Good thinking Jack,” Dante replied. “You search through those reports and see what you can find.”
“Wait, what?” Jack said. “I wasn’t trying to volunteer myself for that assignment…”
“We’ll you just did, get to work, that an order,” said Dante. “Whatever we find we’ll make sure to pass it on to you two.”
“So is that the official green light to put this operation into motion?” Cassie asked.
“Yes this mission is now under way,” said Dante.
“I’m curious about one thing though,” Hagan said. As he got up and walked to the display screen to look at Ethan and the others.
“And what’s that?” Dante asked.
“Do you think that they’ll really offer us a true fight when the time comes? I mean the way he talks about them and the power that they possess. Can it all be true or just something made up?”
“…I guess we’ll see soon enough,” said Dante. “Your all dismissed.
