In tribute to our current seasonal youkai, Letty Whiterock, I decided to post a version of Crystallized Silver. We had quite the warm snap today, with it reaching into the 70s. I'm sure Letty wasn't too happy about it. Despite being a stage 1 boss, I'm quite fond of her theme as it's from my first touhou game and one of my favorite touhou games to this day, Perfect Cherry Blossom.
The usual blaring ZUN trumpets and organ have been replaced with an electric guitar, bass and piano plunking away through a latin jazz piece in this rendition of the song. The melody briefly moves to a vibraphone a bit past two minutes in, which just really works for a wintery theme like Letty's. I've always associated vibraphones with ice or more specifically icicles for some reason, so it just fit for me. This version is definitely a bit more down tempo than the original but it still feels like it fits her personality pretty well, and with the gentle treatment on the cymbals throughout I get sort of a snowy image in my head.
